Chicken & Sons, August 2017

Next to Manpuku Ramen in Chatswood is Chicken & Sons, a casual eatery serving up chicken, burgers and a range of sides and salads.

Chicken and Sons Signature Chicken Buttermilk Burger

We couldn’t go past their delicious-looking signature buttermilk fried chicken burger with cheese, pickles, red cabbage coleslaw and chipotle aioli. The star and highlight of the burger was the buttermilk chicken, which had a superbly crunchy crumb whilst still being moist on the inside. The burger was actually quite spicy though, so skip the chipotle if you can’t handle heat.

Chicken and Sons Miso Honey

The side of Mi-so honey was a bit of a letdown, being less miso-ey and honey-ey than the name suggested. The seasoning was so subtle that it tasted like the carrots and sweet potatoes had pretty much been served as is.

Chicken and Sons The Night King Burger

The special burger the Night King Burger (yes it does have chip-spikes on its head!) of dry aged beef patty, cheese, crispy bacon, pickles, and an assembly of chips glued onto the burger with mac & cheese unfortunately also disappointed. It was overly salty and the beef was overcooked and dry.

Granted the restaurant was quite busy on the night but considering the time we waited, aspects of the burgers could have been better cooked and more attention given to the food preparation. On the plus side, the straight-cut chips were excellent – they had a great crunch and a soft, melty potato inside. Many of the patrons ordered the fried chicken, which is probably the go-to for the joint.
